Union Varsity Cougars knocked in 12 runs in the third on its way to a 20-1 victory over South Summit on Tuesday. Union Varsity Cougars’s offense in the inning came from walks by Kason Maycock, Rayden Deets, and Zach Foote, by Tai Zobell and Brady Mecham, a triple by Jeff Lyon, a single by Maycock, a sac fly by Gabe Smith, and an error on a ball put in play by Daycen Rohrer.

In the first inning, South Summit got their offense started when Foote induced K Butikofer to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Union Varsity Cougars pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Foote homered on a 3-2 count, scoring four runs.

Union Varsity Cougars put up 12 runs in the third inning. Union Varsity Cougars batters contributing to the big inning included Maycock, Zobell, Mecham, Deets, Foote, and Lyon, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Maddux Russell was the winning pitcher for Union Varsity Cougars. The righthander allowed two hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking one. Mecham and Lyon entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

K Larsen took the loss for South Summit. The pitcher allowed five hits and five runs over two innings, walking zero.

Foote started the game for Union Varsity Cougars. The righty allowed two hits and one run over one inning, striking out one and walking one Kyler Sudweeks started the game for South Summit. Sudweeks surrendered four runs on one hit over one and two-thirds innings, striking out five

Union Varsity Cougars launched one home run on the day. Foote put one out in the second inning.

Lyon led Union Varsity Cougars with two hits in three at bats.
