Multiple Teams · Cougar Athletics Update

This week the Cougars got things started on Tuesday with home games for both volleyball and soccer.

The Soccer team was facing off with a very talented and highly ranked team from Delta. Though they had some struggles early in the game giving up four goals Aubree Riser was able to get one back for the Cougars and take a 4-1 game into the half. The Cougars defense strengthened in the second half only allowing one goal but the delta defense held strong and they finished the game with a 5-1 loss.

The Volleyball team took on Manti and made easy work of the templars winning at the varsity level in straight sets.

Wednesday our the Cross country team was in action at the North Sanpete classic. The Girls team placed 5th overall with Sidney Snow getting the fastest individual time for the Cougars and coming in 14th place. On the Boys end the Cougars were able to come in 3rd with Jett Davenport finishing in 5th place and Vance Winterton coming in 10th. The Cross Country team will host a race this upcoming Wednesday at the Roosevelt Golf course so make sure to come down and support them at the finish line!

Thursday was a great day to be a Cougar as we once again had both volleyball and Soccer in action this time on the road at North Sanpete. The Girls Soccer team played in a defensive battle and were able to shut out the Hawks while Aubrey Riser scored the lone goal of the game to help the Cougars to a 1-0 win.

The volleyball team who had played a 5 set thriller with North Sanpete a couple of weeks ago apparently made all the right adjustments and dominated the court to win in straight sets 25-22, 25-22, and 25-23.

Also on Thursday night the Cougars JV and Freshman Football teams attempted to set the tone for the varsity game by hitting the gridiron in Delta. The JV team played a great game on defense only allowing the Rabbits into the red zone a few times while putting up two touchdowns on offense to win the game 12-6. The Freshman football team ran the field with a quick offense and good defense. Jacob Sasser had an outstanding game at QB throwing for 4 touchdowns and running 1 in himself as the Cougars came away with a 30-22 win.

Our Girls tennis team went to the 3A state tournament Friday but were unable to advance anyone out of the first round. Those girls have had a great season and we would like to congratulate them and Coach Dave Law on a job well done.

Finally the Varsity football team got on the field vs. Delta High School. Austin Topham racked up 127 passing yards and threw for 2 touchdowns to lead Delta Rabbits to a 28-9 win over the Cougars on Friday night at Union High School. The Rabbits also received impressive efforts from Will Finlinson who rushed 21 times for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns and Britton Smith who caught 4 passes for 89 yards and 1 touchdown.

Union’s Quarterback Boone Latham threw for 66 yards, Joey Sampson picked up 75 rushing yards and Jory Jenkins had 53 receiving yards.
