Varsity Wrestling · Wrestling Competes Well at Divisionals

This past weekend the Cougar Wrestlers went to the 3A Divisional Tournament in Richfield. The divisional tournament sets the stage and seeding for the State Tournament which will be held at the UCCU Center in Orem on February 14th and 15th. The Cougars were able to qualify 12 wrestlers who all finished in the top 8 of their brackets. Our wrestlers were able to secure 5th place as a team. We had many individuals who out wrestled higher ranked opponents and were able to step up to advance past their competition. Some of the top individual performances came from Jory Jenkins (120) and Dallon Farrer (126). This one two punch that has scored a lot of points for the Cougars this season, came through in a big way at the tournament each earning a 2nd place finish and setting them up for deep runs at the State Tournament. Cadence Ross (170) and Kevin Urzua (145) also wrestled well to finish 3rd place in each of their weights respectively. Other Qualifiers included Dallin Foote at 106, Westin Hagman at 113, Brack Winterton at 126, Cache Hyder at 132, Wyatt Richards at 138, Chipper Harding at 160, TJ McKissack at 285, and Weston Poormon at 285. “I am so proud of the way that these guys have improved over the course of this year… They are much further along than anyone thought they would be this year”. There are a few wrestlers who fell just short of qualifying for state but may still be entered in the tournament as alternates. Good Luck to our Cougar Wrestlers as they prepare to take on a tough field at the 3A State Tournament!
