Multiple Teams · Boys basketball Team Dominates OT to Earn Victory Over Morgan; Girls In 3-Way tie for 3rd Place

With the timely outside shooting of Kyle Hanke, the athletic scoring persistence of Trevor Allred and Brady Nielsen, and key free throw shooting from Tye Winterton down the stretch, the Cougars outlasted the Morgan Trojans at Union last Friday 70-57.

The win puts the Cougars in a tie with Morgan for 4th place at the end of Region 10 competition. They’ll play each other on Tuesday, February 17, 7:00 pm at Wasatch High School to determine the true 4th seed with the winner playing at Bear River High School on Friday, February 20.

Tied at 25 at half time and knotted at the end of regulation with the score 52 all, Union exploded for 18 points to Morgan’s 5 earning the victory. Trevor Allred led all scorers with 19 points and Kyle Hanke added 17 (4 treys) to lead the Cougars.

Meanwhile, the Union Girls’ basketball team was defeated by Morgan putting them into a three-way tie with Uintah and Park City. According to Region 10 guidelines, the three teams each flip a coin and the odd side winner takes the fourth seed. The other two teams play a play-in game and the winner advances as the third seed. Union won the coin flip (4th seed) and will travel to Bear River on Saturday, February 21 to play the number one seeded Bears. Uintah and Park City will play their contest on Tuesday, February 17 at Union High (neutral court) for the third seed from Region 10.
